mama's favorite product of the week

All mamas are pressed for time, so Poppy and Mimi set out to make it fun and quick to jot down your favorite memories with baby.  They've designed beautiful baby jot books filled with questions, ideas, baby stats and space for your own words.  Fill them in now and savor the memories when late night feedings and diaper changes are a thing of the past!

trade offs

By now, you've probably felt the tension that often arises between working mamas and stay-at-home mamas. Those of us working outside the home are secretly jealous of stay-at-home mamas for the time they get with their babies. Yet we can't comprehend or are not in a position to give up a significant part of our identity: our profession. Those of us who gave up careers to stay at home see our working mama friends head off to work looking put together as we shlep around in jeans and remember the days when we, too, got to exercise our brains beyond "what will we play next?". But we can't imagine missing out on each day with our babies.

The new book "Mommy Wars : Stay-at-Home and Career Moms Face Off on Their Choices, Their Lives, Their Families" examines this tension in interesting ways.

No one but another mama can understand the trade- offs that both situations present. But truth be told, we mamas sometimes aren't as supportive of one another as we should be. So remember to support your fellow mamas, regardless of their lifestyle, and trust in your own choice no matter how someone may make you feel about it.

blankie love

You'll most likely never need to perform serious, life- saving first aid on your baby (phew!), but you will be called upon to play doctor. No matter how much you try to shield your precious bundle from the harsh environment of the outside world, chances are he will get sick during his first year. And when the time comes, you’ll see that you really are up to the challenge (even though at this point you may have serious doubts about the truth of such a seemingly outrageous statement).

Call them what you will - blankies, wubbies, loveys - many of us had one when we were wee ones. They were a comfort in the dark, a treasured nap companion and a general snuggle luxury. Does your baby have one yet?

The trouble with a regular sized blankie is that when your little one wants to cart it around, it can get unwieldy. Try mini blankies from Lillamonsters. They measure 18” x 21” – perfect for snuggling but too small to drag and get dirty once your baby is toddling around. They come in lots of fun designs, too!

tip for the week: snack attack

Once your baby discovers Cheerios and Goldfish, your floor gets covered in them. A fellow mama invented the Snack Trap - an ingenious cup for these little snacks that enables your baby to grab food at will yet prevents the extras from falling all over. Snack Traps are available at children’s stores or online.
