By now, you've probably felt the tension that often arises between working mamas and stay-at-home mamas. Those of us working outside the home are secretly jealous of stay-at-home mamas for the time they get with their babies. Yet we can't comprehend or are not in a position to give up a significant part of our identity: our profession. Those of us who gave up careers to stay at home see our working mama friends head off to work looking put together as we shlep around in jeans and remember the days when we, too, got to exercise our brains beyond "what will we play next?". But we can't imagine missing out on each day with our babies.
The new book "Mommy Wars : Stay-at-Home and Career Moms Face Off on Their Choices, Their Lives, Their Families" examines this tension in interesting ways.
No one but another mama can understand the trade- offs that both situations present. But truth be told, we mamas sometimes aren't as supportive of one another as we should be. So remember to support your fellow mamas, regardless of their lifestyle, and trust in your own choice no matter how someone may make you feel about it. back to top
